These are photos of two aircraft emergencies that occurred at the Dutchess County Airport in 1985. The first involved a vintage WWII B-17 Bomber named "Texas Raiders" and is one of just a handful of flyable WW II Flying Fortress Bombers remaining in the world today. The aircraft stopped at DC Airport for refueling and it's brakes failed when it went to stop and it ran off the end of the runway. Fortunately it did not go completely off the end of the runway which abruptly drops off to Jackson Rd which is some 100 feet below......
You can find out about this aircraft at this link: http://www.gulfcoastwing.org/GCW/index.htm If you are interested in aircraft or WWII history, it's an interesting read. If you go through the photo's on the site you will see that the tail number of this aircraft matches the number on all of the photo's......Apparently the aircraft has undergone a major restoration since this incident and I would hope they included the braking system in their to-do-list.......... :-)

The second incident involved an IBM Gulf stream II Jet. Apparently the jet had a potential landing gear problem (Faulty gear down indicator?) and the pilot declared an emergency. IBM maintained their corporate fleet of aircraft - both fixed and rotational winged at the airport until the mid 90's I believe when the entire operation was moved to the Westchester County Airport where it remains today.
